The Fragility of Synthetic Heritage
Refining the history of industrial design reveals that numerous objects of enduring cultural significance from the previous century were crafted from polymers. It was once widely, if naively, assumed that this (1) .......... material possessed a near-invincible durability. However, as these relics have transitioned into curated museum (2) .........., conservationists have realized that this (3) .......... was fundamentally flawed. The rapid deterioration of synthetic compounds presents a race against time to salvage our industrial history before it literally (4) .......... into dust. Our fascination with plastics (5) .......... in large part from their versatility, yet they possess a fatal (6) .......... regarding longevity: chemical instability under UV exposure. We must acknowledge the cultural (7) .......... we intend to transmit to our descendants. Without immediate (8) .........., much of our modern material history faces certain extinction, as what preserves one polymer may destroy another.
