practice-english.com is a free educational platform dedicated to helping students prepare for the Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE) examination. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our website.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information to provide you with the best learning experience:

  • Account Information: If you choose to create an account (e.g., via email or Google Sign-In), we process your email address, display name, and a unique user identifier to provide secure access to your profile.
  • Local Storage Data: Many of your exam results, XP points, and streaks are primarily stored locally in your browser using LocalStorage.
  • Analytics Data: We use Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to collect anonymised usage data, including pages visited, session duration, device type, and approximate geographic location. This helps us understand how students use the platform and improve our content.
  • Cookies: Third-party services such as Google Analytics may place cookies on your device. When you follow affiliate links to external sites (Amazon, Preply, etc.), those sites may set their own cookies. See our Cookie Policy for full details.

3. How We Use Your Information

The information collected is used exclusively to:

  • Securely authenticate your login and manage your personal account.
  • Provide and improve the educational content and features of the platform.
  • Analyse usage patterns to optimise the user experience.
  • Operate optional affiliate links and donation links disclosed on our Study essentials page.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

  • Amazon Associates / OneLink: If you click a book link on our Study essentials page, Amazon may process data under their privacy policy. See Amazon Privacy Notice.
  • Preply: Tutoring links redirect to Preply's website. See Preply's Privacy Policy.
  • Buy Me a Coffee: Optional donations are processed by Buy Me a Coffee. See their privacy policy on their site.
  • Google Analytics: Used for anonymised traffic analysis. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel: Our hosting provider. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase: Provides our backend infrastructure and secure authentication services. If you register, your account credentials (e.g., email, secure password hashes, OAuth tokens from Google) are securely processed and stored by Supabase in compliance with industry-standard encryption protocols. 5. Data Retention

Account information (such as your registered email and profile name) is retained for as long as your account remains active. You may request the permanent deletion of your account and associated data at any time. Learning data stored locally in your browser can be cleared directly through your browser settings. Analytics data collected by third-party services is subject to their respective retention policies.

6. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Consent: When you agree to our use of cookies for analytics.
  • Legitimate Interest: To maintain, secure, and improve our platform, and to provide you with the educational services requested.

  • Access, Rectify, or Erase: Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data (note that your learning data is locally stored and can be deleted via your browser settings).

7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have specific rights regarding their personal information.

We do not, and will not, sell your personal information to third parties.

We do not share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not currently run third-party display advertising on the Platform. Affiliate partners may collect data when you visit their sites after clicking a disclosed link.

8. Children's Privacy

Our platform is designed for students preparing for advanced English examinations (C2 level) and is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
