Cycling to workPart 6

"Cycling to work" is a Cambridge C2 Proficiency Reading Part 6 practice exam (Open Cloze). This paper rewards close reading, inference and awareness of text organisation. Work under timed conditions when possible — the combined Reading and Use of English paper allows 90 minutes across Parts 1–7. After completing the exercise, use review mode to understand why each answer is correct and note any vocabulary or discourse patterns you missed.

Last spring I bought a bicycle and began riding to work twice a week. The journey does not take much longer (27) going by bus. I wear bright clothing so drivers can see (28) clearly. I used to feel nervous on one busy section, although I have become more confident (29) time. I do not enjoy riding (30) heavy rain. Since I started cycling, I have (31) spending less on transport. I arrive at work feeling more awake, (32) is an unexpected benefit. The change has become part of my normal routine, and I now notice the benefits more clearly than I did at the beginning. It has also encouraged me to plan ahead and make small practical improvements. The routine now feels normal, and I find it easier to plan each week.
