Delivery drones
Delivery drones would, of course, do away with the stress of deliveries, allowing local couriers to plan routes, serve customers or complete other tasks, and they would also reduce delays caused by human error. The benefits would go (9) ________ speed and convenience, however, since they would also revolutionise distribution and urban planning. Loading bays and street signs would no (10) ________ be needed. Different autonomous drones in the air would be able to coordinate their movements, and travel (11) ________ close formation, so that deliveries would be kept moving without interruption, (12) ________ journeys quicker and local distribution more efficient. On the one hand, this might mean that warehouses become smaller, with new urban parks occupying space previously dedicated to storage. As a (13) ________, distribution networks could spread over wider areas as delivery times fell. On the (14) ________ hand, this expansion might increase energy use. It may all sound (15) ________ science fiction, but much of the necessary technology already exists. Almost (16) ________ drone makers are developing systems that will turn aircraft into autonomous couriers.
