A neighbourhood night market
A neighbourhood night market has taken (1) .......... in a former car park every Friday since spring. The site had previously been empty after dark, so the organisers wanted to make it feel active without causing disruption for nearby residents. They worked with local businesses to arrange lighting and a simple waste-collection system. Before the first market, local residents helped test the layout and suggested where quieter stalls should be placed. Their comments led to wider paths and clearer signs as well. The organisers go to great (2) .......... to make it welcoming to people of different ages, arranging music early in the evening and quieter activities later on. Stallholders come from all walks of (3) ..........: some sell bread or vegetables, while others offer repaired clothing, locally made soap or second-hand books. The programme changes each week because volunteers are always coming (4) .......... with new ideas. They keep (5) .......... of which stalls attract the most interest, but they avoid turning the event into a competition. Instead, regular traders are encouraged to stay on good (6) .......... with one another and share advice about suppliers. The market has made a noticeable (7) .......... to the area, particularly for people who used to feel that there was little to do after work. From time (8) .......... time, the organisers invite local groups to explain what they do, which has helped several small projects find new supporters.
