An accessible museum guide
When a museum began testing a new guide for first-time visitors, the team first observed how visitors moved through the building and where they paused to look for information. They discovered that a small amount of guidance at the beginning reduced the need for long explanations later. The guide was tested with families, school groups and people visiting alone, rather than only with regular museum users. Some staff were (17) .......... that it could simplify complicated ideas without losing accuracy. However, early feedback praised the guide’s (18) .......... and the clearer arrangement of information. Labels were rewritten to improve (19) .........., while objects were grouped in a more (20) .......... sequence. The most (21) .......... changes were small: a map at the entrance, a short introduction to each room and clearer signs about where to ask questions. The team also wanted to encourage (22) .........., so visitors were invited to add their own observations. Care was taken to avoid unnecessary (23) .......... in the language.
