B1 Preliminary pathway

B1 Intermediate English

B1 is the transition from basic communication to independent everyday English. The Practice English B1 pathway is being prepared as a focused progression rather than a thin collection of isolated exercises.

Publication status

Template ready; exercises will be released in stages.

What this pathway is designed to achieve

Build reliable control of familiar topics, connected speech and practical written communication before moving into exam-specific B2 work.

Core priorities

  • Core tense control and high-frequency grammar
  • Everyday vocabulary in realistic contexts
  • Reading and listening for main ideas and useful detail
  • Connected speaking and clearly organised short writing

Why the exercises are not published yet

Practice English is releasing B1 and B2 gradually after the existing C1 and C2 sitemap reaches a stable indexing baseline. This avoids publishing large numbers of shallow or poorly connected pages. The pathway, metadata and navigation are ready; exercise links will appear only when their content is complete and indexable.

Suggested rhythm

A balanced weekly plan

Treat this as a starting structure. Replace generic repetition with work on the error patterns your completed exercises actually reveal.

  1. 1Two focused grammar or vocabulary sessions
  2. 2One reading and one listening task with error review
  3. 3One short written or spoken response
  4. 4One consolidation session based on recurring mistakes

Framework and exam references

Level labels follow the CEFR. Cambridge exam names and task expectations should always be checked against the current official exam pages and handbooks.
