Community drumming is a group fitness activity using sticks and portable drum pads to actively engage the upper body and raise overall energy expenditure. It was (17) ________ developed in local community centres by experienced dance and music teachers as an accessible group-based winter training activity. To the (19) ________ eye, moving energetically through a hall while rhythmically striking padded drums may look slightly unusual, but it provides a genuinely demanding (20) ________ for varying ages and ability levels. Participants do not (21) ________ need to play faster; they can raise effort safely through larger, carefully controlled upper arm and torso movements. The specially balanced sticks, often made from wood or recycled fibre, are designed to help (22) ________ the muscular contribution of the upper body. Because the activity also involves repeated and controlled movement, it helps with (23) ________ important muscles directly supporting bones and joints. Best of all, overall effort is distributed across the (24) ________ of the body, so a well-designed class may feel less tiring than conventional gym exercise.
