A station becomes a library
The old Westbridge railway station is a shining example of a public building using books to renew its purpose. The council hired an architecture studio called Newspace to carry out a rebranding (1) ________ and gave the agency (2) ________ rein to take the project by the scruff of the neck and effect a major makeover. The council wanted calm, contemporary interiors which would symbolise an inviting, forward-thinking library. (3) ________, the station now has a new entrance, and all its waiting rooms contain bright reading areas which are (4) ________ on the eye. Architect Lena Ross comments: “The spaces Newspace (5) ________ say a lot about our history, scale and purpose. And we were delighted with the renovation programme they subsequently (6) ________, using a stylish, sophisticated approach with a touch of humour here and there.” Public response to the reopening has been excellent, and what appeared to be a (7) ________ old railway station has been given a new lease of (8) ________ as a welcoming and confident library.
