Behind a robotics demonstration

Watching a successful robotics demonstration is an amazing experience. The display looks effortless and everything goes smoothly, but this often (17) ________ the amount of work that was actually involved. At the Innovation Centre, the average time from the first (18) ________ to demonstration day is just four weeks of intensive work. Everyone involved attends the first systems check by the team, so this is an ideal opportunity to get an (19) ________ into how a prototype develops. I took myself to the centre on a (20) ________ October morning to attend the full rehearsal of the centre’s new demonstration. It is a complex recreation of urban traffic flow, rich in detail and built around (21) ________ vehicles controlled by a student team for technical (22) ________. “It’s important for people to have a sense of common purpose and (23) ________,” explains engineer Lena Brooks. “The robot has been in careful development since June but this is the first rehearsal and it will be (24) ________ of how the components work together.
