How it is marked
Parts 1–3: 1 mark per gap (8 × 3 = 24). Part 4: up to 2 marks per item (6 × 2 = 12), with partial credit for half-right transformations. Hub percentages follow that 36-mark scheme. A C2 pass is typically Cambridge Scale 200+.

All four options can “mean” the right thing; only one partners with the words around it.

What is in Cambridge C2 Use of English?
C2 Proficiency Use of English has four parts: Multiple Choice Cloze (Part 1), Open Cloze (Part 2), Word Formation (Part 3), and Key Word Transformation (Part 4). Together they total 36 marks and test advanced vocabulary, grammar, and paraphrase control.
How is C2 Use of English marked?
Parts 1–3 give 1 mark per correct gap (8 gaps each → 24 marks). Part 4 gives up to 2 marks per item (6 items → 12 marks), with partial credit when half the transformation is right. Practice percentages on this hub follow that mark scheme.
How long does C2 Use of English take?
In the real exam, Use of English sits inside the Reading and Use of English paper. For practice on this hub, budget about 7–8 minutes per Parts 1–3 task and about 10 minutes for Part 4 — roughly 30–40 minutes for a full Parts 1–4 run if you sit them back to back.
What is the difference between Part 1 and Part 2?
Part 1 (Multiple Choice Cloze) is mostly lexical: collocations, phrasal verbs, and near-synonyms with four options. Part 2 (Open Cloze) is mostly structural: one-word gaps that are usually articles, prepositions, auxiliaries, pronouns, or linkers — you write the word yourself.
How does Part 4 Key Word Transformation work?
You rewrite a sentence using a fixed key word so the meaning stays the same. Use 3–8 words including the key word, and do not change the key word. Each item is worth up to 2 marks; examiners can award 1 mark for a half-correct answer.
How can I improve my C2 Use of English score?
Practise one part at a time until patterns stabilise, review every wrong answer for the underlying rule (collocation, function word, negative prefix, inversion, etc.), train collocations and idioms for Parts 1 and 4, then run timed full papers. Retest weak parts instead of only adding random volume.
